Hello all! I'm now BOOKED for the remainder of 2011. I also need to announce that I will be taking a break from photography for the next couple years. I've decided to focus my time on other art projects and my family! Thank you all for your support; I've truly enjoyed working with all of you!!

I love how upon exiting the temple couples are surrounded by a paparazzi of friends and family.

The Finale

This was my last session for the 2010 Fall Season. My baby is due in just a couple weeks now. I was a little nervous about this last session, to be honest. My balance is a little off these days; and I'm not as agile (or FAST) as is sometimes needed with kiddos.

But my fears were soon dispelled. This little girl was an absolute ANGEL! She posed and smiled and jumped around like it was second nature--I can see a promising modeling career in her future!

Thanks for a wonderful season everyone! I'll continue to post my personal work while I'm on maternity leave for the next couple months. Hopefully, I'll even come up with a decent picture of my own kiddos for our Christmas card. Wish me luck! (Seriously, please wish me luck! I'm going to need it--photographing my own kids is ten-times harder than yours!)

Little Princess

This darling little girl is special to so many people--including me! I had the privilege of spending the entire weekend with her family. We took lots of pictures with lots of costume changes. It was such a fun time!

I still haven't quite figured out why train tracks are such a popular photo venue, but I couldn't help joining the club with a train tracks photo shoot of my own.

And for this adorable family, it was the perfect locale--because they are actually INTO trains! This little man explained to me the different types of train and their respective unique track layouts. So cute!

Falling for Fall

After the hub-bub of summer adventures, I always welcome the relaxing, cozy feeling of fall's arrival. It's as if mother nature herself is kicking back and letting out a long, contented sigh. I just love the change of pace, the change of colors, and the cooler weather!

These pics come from my first "official" fall season shoot. I was tickled to see Momma picked such a fun color palate. Everyone looked so cute!

Summer Morning

I love it when people want to meet early in the morning. When the light has this magical soft sparkly to it.

Originally, we were just going to do some pictures of the kids--but when mom and dad happened to match the color scheme, I couldn't just let them sit on the sidelines!

The Runaway

Taking pictures of babies is a cinch. They stay where you put them and they smile just about anything.

But somewhere along the line they learn how to walk. And then, no amount of silly noises or stupid faces can keep them tied down. They're FREE! And their off!

Parents always agonize and apologize over their runaways. It's just a fact that you're not going to get many "sitting still looking directly into the camera" shots--but that wouldn't capture who these little free spirits are anyhow!

And, truly and honestly, I love chasing them down. I love the glee in their eyes as they escape their parent's laps, the patter of their chubby feet and the triumphant burst of laughter as they run free.

What's not to love?

This little girl was such a delight. She ran and ran. By the end, she was ready to cuddle in mommy's arms and take a nap. Such energy! Such zest for life! So, so cute!

I am so behind on blog posts--sorry guys! I really don't have a good excuse; just been uber busy and a little more tired then usual (being preggers is hard work!).

But either way, I feel bad--and I promise to get you all published here soon!

For starters, here is a lovely family I photographed back in July. They are the definition of what I love about being photographer. I walk into a situation with people I have never met before and I walk away wanting to invite them all over for dinner.

This family is so lovely and we had such a wonderful session together. Can't you feel the unconditional acceptance they have for one another? Grandma couldn't be more proud of the THREE adorable grandchildren she garnered in less than year. And the adults--well, they are adorable too! Just take a look!

I was so excited about this image. I simple LOVE hyacinth, they are so lovely. And paired with this adorable little girl in a white pinafore, I feel like I should write a poem about it. Too bad poetry is NOT my forte! I guess the picture will have to suffice.

Little Toes

I'm so in love with infant photography! And this little dude was perfect. He was awake for about half the session, letting me capture his bright blue eyes. Then he fell sound asleep for the second half. What cooperation!

This dear family rescheduled FOUR TIMES because of rain (You can't imagine how frustrated I've been with Mother Nature lately!). But, we final got a day when it wasn't raining BUCKETS--and despite the clouds and the dampness, I think the results were worth it! Thanks for being such troopers!!

The weather has not been my best friend lately. The beautiful fall colors are in full array--and its been raining like crazy here in Virginia. Grrrr. But this adorable family decided to brave the elements. I think it made for some fun images. We also shot some inside. I love the yellow couch--so fun!

We also did some individual portraits of the kiddos. Love this expression!

Birthday Boy

I've been photographing this little guy since he was 9 months old. I cannot believe he's now THREE! He grows in leaps and bounds between each session; its unreal! He has, however, now reached an age where it is fun to play it up for the camera. This certainly made my job a piece of cake this time!

Sweet, sweet baby

As many of you know, I am the oldest in a family of 12 children. As such, I always consider it a special treat to photograph other large families. This sweet little gal is number six in her family. I can tell from my own experiences growing up and from my time with this family that it doesn't matter what "number" you are--welcoming a new baby into a family is ALWAYS the most precious and wonderful experience! It was so much fun to watch the love and excitement her older siblings have for her. She's in good hands!

This session was early in the morning...the air was cool, even crisp, and it was still August! How has summer slipped away so fast? The sun was just rising as we started, casting it's soft, morning glow all over. Simply beautiful! We had a great time playing around. Hurrah for summer! Here comes the Fall!

August Bride

Oh, how I love love LOVE weddings! This wedding was especially fun because it happened to be at a place near and dear to my heart-the Washington DC LDS Temple-- as this is where me and my husband were also wed.

This beautiful couple was just so sweet to work with. I've never met a more gracious bride or a more adoring groom. They simply glowed! It was hard to pick a selection of photos to post...so many to choose from...but these are some of my personal favorites:

Stepping Stones

It's a humid August morning and we're shooting around a building beside these four little ones' favorite playground. Do they whine? Do they fidget? Do they make grumpy faces? Nope!
Ranging in age from five to one, these tikes sit calmly, smile, and pose like they've been in the business for years! (Maybe they have---These cuties could easily sell anything from shampoo to baby food!) I was so impressed!

I've had several requests for remakes of this shot since I first did it back in May. I know its not terribly creative to do the same shot multiple times--but its so dang cute, I can't resist!

Into Loving Arms

One look at this family and you can feel the love they have for their tiny new addition. He is simply surrounded by love! Throughout the session I could sense how special this baby is to the whole family. Afterward, as I heard the story of his birth, it brought tears to my eyes--what a miracle!--and what a blessing to this loving family!

I worried this shoot would be canceled because of the torrential rainfall we'd had during the night, but these kids braved the soggy grass with smiles!

Pictures like this make me think I might just be brave enough to raise a boy.

We had to try several jokes--but we final got this guy to give us a real smile!

I've create this blog as a place to keep my photography friends up-to-date with my latest work and other photography happenings. Please see my website www.stephaniepilling.com for more pictures and information about booking your next session.

Here is a little bit about what I do:

My favorite thing to do is portraiture--families, maternity, infants, kids, seniors, bridals, engagement, etc. I also do weddings and events such as birthdays, showers, reunions, and corporate parties.
I work "on location" only--I do not have a studio nor do I bring my own props. Its your responsibility to choose the location and props, if desired. I love working in people's homes, indoors and outdoors. I think its great to document your environment right along with your portrait. Parks also work great.
I typically only work on Saturdays, but am willing to consider other days of the week if its far enough in advance.
I'm less artsy than some. Don't get me wrong, I love being creative! But I also know my style is more traditional. My goal is to take beautiful "pictures" not create "academic artwork."
After your session is over, I take one to two weeks to process your photos. You receive your images on a CD along with a release to print them wherever you choose. Portrait sessions usual produce 10-15 solid images depending on the number of people involved. For events, I average about 30-40 images an hour.
